The Biography

Scratchboard drawing of worn stone steps climbing between overgrown banks, with tall candelabra cacti to one side and a lattice watchtower against a break of cloud.
L’ultima passeggiata — scratchboard on clayboard

I am Malémé, taken from Guillaume Apollinaire’s poem “La Chanson du Mal-Aimé.” It sets the tone I want my work to carry: something between longing and devotion.

I studied graphic design, illustration, and animation at École Condé Créasud in Bordeaux, France, where I discovered scratchboard and fell for its patience and precision. My work draws on artists like Zdzisław Beksiński, Alfonso Dunn, Ferdinand Gaillard, and Gustave Doré.

Back in Mauritius, I worked as a graphic designer for two years. In 2024, I joined Gaill’arts, a plein air painting collective, and that’s where my love for Mauritian landscapes took hold. My first group exhibition came through them. Soon after, framing one of my paintings at Ilôt Cadres caught the eye of Artme, a gallery that had just opened. I joined their inaugural exhibition, “La Bienveillance.”

In 2025, I left design behind to pursue art full-time. Since then, two more galleries have reached out: Artemida in Milan, and the Sanyantang Art Museum in Suzhou, China. Today, I work under an exclusive contract with Artme, drawn to their professionalism, energy, and genuine love of art.
